He is a retired professional ice hockey player who played in the National Hockey League for the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Colorado Avalanche. Dino Guilmette is also a former coach of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League’s Baie-Comeau Drakkar. In 2001, he became the first Canadian-born player to compete in an Olympic Winter Games.
Dino Guilmette was drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the eighth round of the 1977 NHL Entry Draft. He made his NHL debut with Toronto on January 9, 1981 against the Boston Bruins and played his final game with the Avalanche on April 5, 1996 against the Calgary Flames. Dino Guilmette was born and raised in the small town of Saint-Lambert, Quebec. Dino began playing hockey at a young age and soon realized he had a talent for the game. After playing minor hockey with the Saint-Lambert Oilers, Dino joined the QMJHL’s Sherbrooke Phoenix as a 16-year-old rookie in 2001. Dino quickly became one of the team’s best players, scoring 161 points (66 goals and 85 assists) in his rookie season. Dino then helped the Phoenix to a Memorial Cup championship in 2003.
