Learning to wash colored lace front wigs can be difficult if you’ve never worn one before.

How long should you let it go in between washes? Which wig-care products should you use? Do it yourself or leave it to a hairdresser to wash your wig? How can you wash your wig without causing it any harm?  Wig maintenance requires practice, just like most things in life!  When you begin correctly washing your wigs regularly, you’ll see that they maintain a fresh appearance for extended lengths of time.

Here are some pointers and advice to assist you:

  • Maintain the beauty of your wig for a longer time than before.
  • Put an end to tearing, stretching, or harming your wig cap.
  • Reduce frizz, shedding, matting, and tangling
  • Maintain luster

When should your wig be washed?

How frequently you wash your wig depends primarily on how often/long you wear it, and wear you live. Your human hair wig should ideally only be washed every 7 to 14 days.  However, you’ll need to wash your wig more frequently if you live in a humid environment.

How to preserve your wig

Even wigs for women with real hair should be handled with care, because it is not your real hair. While adhering to the manufacturer’s instructions is crucial, some general maintenance guidelines can maintain your wig in excellent condition.

If possible, style your wig using your fingers. If you must use brushes or combs, make sure they are made specifically for wigs. The more hairspray or gel you use, the more frequently you’ll need to wash your wig, so use styling gels or sprays carefully (or have it cleaned).

How to wash a wig with natural human hair

There isn’t much difference between cleaning naturally growing hair and washing a natural human hair wig. However, in the shower, it simply doesn’t happen!

  1. Prep: Before washing the wig, smooth the hair with a wide-tooth comb. Be careful not to stretch or pull the hair fibres.
  2. Wet: While holding your wig in one hand, lightly mist the hair with warm water. The wig hair only needs to be damp, not drenched.
  3. Wash: Apply a little shampoo to the wig hair, then comb it thoroughly. After that, rinse the hair well, careful not to wring or squeeze the wig.
  4. Conditioning: Condition your hair by working a tiny quantity of conditioner through it and letting it sit for a few minutes. Luke warm water should run clear after rinsing the hair.
  5. Drying: You can use a blow dryer for wigs made of natural human hair, but the simplest way to dry a wig is to put it on a wig stand and let it air dry. Your natural human hair wig can be curled with a low-temperature curling iron once it has dried.  Just make sure to maintain a low heat setting.

When the wig is completely dry, spritz it with a detangler or hair shine product and comb it through the fibres. While your wig is still damp, you can style it using brush rollers or fingers. A synthetic hair wig can occasionally be styled by lightly tossing it.

We hope this will enable you to look after your wigs and extensions better.
