What is Booker T?

Booker T is a big name in WWE wrestling. He lost his parents when he was young and had a hard time finding his way as a child and teen. After a string of robberies, he went to prison. Booker went from wrestling in small venues to becoming a national star. First with World Championship Wrestling and then with WWE. He won the WCW Tag Team Championship 11 times, and as a solo wrestler, he won the World Championship six times. Booker won the WWE King of the Ring Tournament in 2006. He stopped wrestling and worked as a commentator and trainer after that. He also opened his own school for wrestling. In 2013 and 2019, he was added to the WWE Hall of Fame.

Early Years:

Booker was born on March 1, 1965, in Plain Dealing, Louisiana. Booker T full name is Robert Booker Tio Huffman Jr. His mother had eight kids, and Booker was the last one. Booker T’s father died when Booker was 10 months old. His family moved from Louisiana to Texas because of this loss. Booker grew up in the Houston neighbourhood of South Park, where he learned to love wrestling.

Reason for His Mother Death:

When Booker was 13, his mom died because of problems that happened during surgery. Even though the electricity and water had been turned off, Booker and his next oldest sister lived alone in their old house for a while. After that, Booker went to stay with one of his older sisters. As a teen, he didn’t have much help or direction. He didn’t pay attention to school, and he was surrounded by people who drank and did drugs. Booker had a child when he was 17.

Getting Arrested and Going to Jail:

Booker and some friends decided to rob a Wendy’s because he had to work there and the manager was rude. After this crime was successful, the group went on to rob other Wendy’s franchises until 1987, when they were caught.

Booker made a deal with the judge and got five years in prison. Before he got out on parole, he went to prison for 19 months and got his GED.

Early Years of Wrestling:

In 1989, Booker’s brother, Lash “Stevie Ray” Huffman, told Booker that bodybuilder and wrestler Ivan Putski ran a wrestling school. Booker wanted to go, but he didn’t have the $4,000 fee that was needed. The money came from his boss at the storage company where he worked.

Western Wrestling Alliance:

Booker turned out to be very good at the sport. After he finished the course in wrestling, he and his brother both got jobs with the Western Wrestling Alliance. Booker and his brother moved to Texas All-Pro Wrestling when WWA closed. Then, they joined Dallas’s Global Wrestling Federation and became the Ebony Experience, a tag team. Their first show was on May 4, 1992.

Win Global Wrestling Federation Tag Team Championship:

People in the crowds felt free to say racist things, like the word “n-word,” to the two. But Booker found that he could win over wrestling fans with moves like his “Spinaroonie,” which was inspired by break dancing. Booker and his brother went on to win the Global Wrestling Federation Tag Team Championship.

Work in WCW and WWE:

Between trips to and from Dallas for the Global Wrestling Federation, Booker still had to go to work. When he and his brother were signed to World Championship Wrestling that was his big break. In 1993, the brothers became the Harlem Heat, a tag team in WCW. After that, the popular pair won 10 WCW Tag Team Championships.

WCW World Heavyweight Championship:

With the blessing of his brother, Booker moved on to singles wrestling, where he became an even bigger star. In 2000, he became the first Black person to win the WCW World Heavyweight Championship since 1992. Booker was the last WCW Heavyweight Champion because he held the title when WWE bought WCW in 2001. At the time, WWE was called the World Wrestling Federation.

Wrestling at WWE:

After WCW was taken over by WWE, Booker kept wrestling at WWE. His demand grew, and he was able to show how funny he was while wrestling famous people like “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, The Undertaker, Triple H, and Ric Flair. Booker and Goldust also worked together as a tag team.

Win Ring Tournament:

He won the 2006 King of the Ring Tournament under the name King Booker. Booker left WWE in 2007, but he came back for the Royal Rumble in 2011. For his work on his own, he was put into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2013. In 2019, he and his brother were both inducted into the Hall of Fame for what they did as the Harlem Heat.

Retirement:

In 2012, Booker stopped wrestling. He then became the General Manager for WWE’s SmackDown and a colour commentator for SmackDown. Booker also worked as a trainer on WWE Tough Enough, a popular reality show.

Booker’s wrestling school, Reality of Wrestling, let him share his love of the sport with other people. He put together a Reality of Wrestling show with students from his school.

Personal Life:

When Booker was 17, he had a son named Brandon. While he was in jail, his teenage girlfriend lost custody of their son, and Brandon went to live with a foster family. When Brandon was 5, Booker was able to get custody.

Marriage:

On February 5, 2005, Booker and Sharmell Huffman got married. Sharmell used to be Miss Black America, and she went on tour with James Brown. When she was a WCW Nitro Girl, they met. Their marriage was reflected in their WWE characters. When he went out as King Booker, she went out as Queen Sharmell. His wife Sharmell and he have twins, a boy and a girl.
